Join us for a relatively easy hike up Goodnow Fire Tower.  This hike is on trails maintained by SUNY ESF.  We will start at the trailhead off of Route 28N, between Newcomb and Long Lake: https://maps.app.goo.gl/4V2yCz4rYfa3xpSk8  From there it is a gentle start until we get to the site where ESF is currently running a multi-year study on the effects of clear cutting and forestry management.  After we cross the study area, the climb begins, but we barely hit 20% slope in a couple places, so nothing really steep.  When we get to the top, we can climb the newly refurbished (summer 2025) fire tower and look at the caretakers cabin just below the peak.  The majority of the hike is in the forest, but the views from the tower are well worth it.

In total, this hike is 4 miles and 1100 feet of elevation gain with our maximum elevation being 2680 feet.  I would expect about 3 to 4 hours of time on the trail, depending on how long we stop at the top, and what we see along the trail.
